Sowing the Seeds of Resilience - PJ Bergin

Updated: May 11, 2020

Recently, SOIL Sangre de Cristo received some exciting news regarding the loan fund for the farm community. The New Belgium Family Foundation has awarded us a 50% matching grant over the next 3 years, making this a great time to become a member investor at any level. For example, a $250 membership will be matched $125, while a $500 membership will add $250 to the fund!

SOIL Sangre de Cristo is the fourth and newest SOIL region in Colorado. Between our chapter and those in Carbondale, Durango and Boulder, SOIL has about 255 members and counting. We join them in supporting local farms and small food enterprises and serving our respective communities.

Our link with member investors and local farmers is strong. By awarding 0% loans, SOIL Sangre de Cristo supplies the capital for infrastructure improvements and materials required to help these enterprises continue to grow and prosper. There are other pluses, too. The variety of vegetables available is far more diverse than what’s typically found in the local grocery store — heirloom tomatoes being one of my personal favorites!

If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it’s that our health and safety depend on collective action. Our local economy and food sources will only become more important as time goes on. Please consider joining now as a member investor of SOIL Sangre de Cristo to help support and sustain local farms. There’s a donation form on the home page of this website.

Thank you,

PJ
